On Earth 1 of 7 people lives with some form of vision impairment. Vision gives independence in daily life without the need of help from others. We have a new approach to try to provide this freedom.

The origin of the idea is very common. We like to travel on public transport. Once upon a time we met to talk and cruise in the city. We got off the bus and there was a couple waiting for the green light. For this moment it sounds a typical situation, but they live with visual impairment. In Hungary there are a lot of special services for people with blindness or visual impairment. A buyable special remote controller can communicate with traffic lamps in the "smart" junctions. When they push the controller the lamp give a 443 Mh signal when the crossing is safe. Unfortunately this junction was a non-smart type. We helped them to cross the street. After that nearly the half evening we talked about how hard could be a life with some visual impairment or blindness. Then we realized, we have the chance and knowledge to help. Maybe we cannot be there in every non-smart traffic lamp around the world, but we can make an application that can. With this app every crossing will be safe. In the long term every walking will be in safety. Maybe this is not a huge, world-changer idea, but according to WHO data approximately 1.3 billion people live worldwide with some form of vision impairment. Globally, 36 million people are blind.

We want to help people whose life is more challenging than ours. Imagine a situation when you see a beautiful flower on the other side of the road. Imagine you go across the streets to buy that flower to make one of your partner/family member be happy. Imagine his or her face. Finally, imagine you see nothing but darkness. Most of all vision impairment can be avoidable, but we have no tool to do that. However, we have a tool to make people life safer. The daily routine like going across the street is simple to most of us but not so easy for people with vision impairment. We create a model that can help to identify the signal of traffic lights. Thanks to it walking will be safer.

It is good to give and receive help, because everybody feels helpfulness and to be connected, but giving the freedom of movement causes a huge improvement in quality of life. For people with visual impairment a little help can provide a better life. The feeling of being independent is the biggest support.
